The theme for this month’s Blog Bites 5 Event is ‘Sandwiches and Wraps’. Now, I am not a sandwich person…meaning that the only sandwich that I make are the bread/butter/jam sandwiches for breakfast. But, a challenge is a challenge and I started hunting for sandwich/wraps recipes. What better place to look for than the hosting blog itself..and, she even had a droolworthy picture of this sandwich in the announcement page. I had to adapt the recipe to fit what ingredients I had on hand, and in spite of all these substitutions/additions, it tasted great.

Ingredients:
3 burger buns topped with sesame seeds
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
1 tbsp chopped onion
2 tbsp chopped cilantro
1 tbsp chopped red bell pepper
1 tsp finely minced jalapeno pepper(seeded)
pinch red pepper flakes
pinch of salt
1 tbsp low fat margarine to spread the rolls

Method:
Mix all the ingredients except for the buns and the margarine in a bowl.

Spread the margarine on the insides of the buns.(I used I can’t believe its not butter blend.) Place the filling between the two halves and place carefully on a greased pan/griddle over medium high heat. Weigh it down with a heavy pan – I used my pressure cooker. Flip and cook the other side also. Serve hot!

Verdict: The sandwich was spicy from the addition of the jalapenos and the pepper flakes and I am glad I used the burger buns coss the sesame seeds on top of the buns got toasted and gave a unique crunch to the sandwiches. Thanks to Nupur for this desi style sandwich.
